National Children’s Grief Awareness Day
You helped us provide additional materials for our new bereavement kits for children and teens! These kits can help children and teenagers process and work through grief at their own pace and in their own space.
Kits for children (approximately ages 3-9) provide various sensory items to help kids express thoughts or feelings of grief, bring comfort, and provide an opportunity to discuss the death of a loved one when the child is ready. Each item in the kit offers an activity or resource that encourages healthy coping and relaxation techniques.
Since adolescence is a time when teens need to fit in, losing someone close can make them feel different from their friends. With physical/emotional changes taking place, teens may feel overwhelmed and have difficulty identifying how to begin working through the complexity of feelings they may be experiencing. Items in the teen grief kits (ages 10-18) can help provide an outlet and space for reflection and processing feelings.
