Lasting Wish
Granting this Lasting Wish was Pretty Cool
Â

John has always had the desire to brave the cold of a “Polar Bear Plunge,” a tradition where fearless folks often start the new year by jumping into a frigid body of water. He mentioned this goal to his Toledo, Ohio Hospice team of caregivers and they, with the help of the Elara Caring Hospice Foundation, made it happen!
John’s team of caregivers all played a role in making his dream a reality, including Volunteer Coordinator Kate, Chaplain Steve, Nurse Sarah, Clinical Team Manager Emily, Social Worker Al, and Volunteer Blake, as they joined him for the chilly occasion. Tubs of icy water were set up for plunging, and the theme of polar bears was reinforced with polar bear-themed Coca-Colas and polar bear towels. The team even had a custom “Polar Bear Plunge 2026” shirt made up for John!
Proudly wearing his shirt, cola in hand, John plunged his feet into the icy water, followed by nearly all of his Elara Caring Hospice support team. Afterwards, they toasted John’s valiant bravery with chilled Cokes. Says Kate, “This is my favorite “Lasting Wish” yet!
Indeed, granting this wish was pretty cool.
