It Takes a Village

It takes a village!

Recently I enlisted my teenage son to help me carry a GIANT box of lovingly prepared By Your Side kits up the stairs to our Elara Caring Hospice office in Toledo, Ohio.

These kits were created by an amazing team of volunteers and our Development Coordinator Nikki at our Elara Caring Hospice Foundation office in Jackson, Michigan. Rather than paying for shipping expenses, seeking to be a good steward of our Foundation resources, I offered to bring them back to Toledo after a recent visit to Jackson to hand deliver them to our Toledo office.

Our Toledo Hospice team compassionately serves many patients receiving hospice care and their families throughout northwest Ohio, wherever each individual calls home. Our By Your Side kits offer comforting resources and tangible support to families in the last hours of a loved one’s life.

So far this year, our Foundation has provided over 150 By Your Side kits to families all over our Elara Caring Hospice service area across 10 states. It is our honor to work alongside our Bereavement Coordinators, Volunteer Coordinators, Chaplains, Nurses, Social Workers, and others to ensure these resources are provided to families who can benefit most.

Indeed, it takes a village.
