Restoring Independence and Connection for Nancy
At 74, Nancy had been struggling with COPD, which made even short walks exhausting and often left her feeling anxious and isolated. Living alone, she longed for the simple joys of visiting neighbors, enjoying the fresh air and feeling connected to her community. But without the ability to move around easily, those moments of connection felt out of reach.
Thanks to the generosity of Hospice Foundation donors, Nancy’s life was brightened by the arrival of a brand-new mobility scooter. The gift was a complete surprise and her excitement was contagious. “I called my daughter immediately and told her to guess what happened,” Nancy shared. “I wanted her to guess but I was too excited to keep it in!”
With her scooter, Nancy enjoyed the freedom to go outside, visit friends and find comfort in a change of scenery—something that helped calm her nerves and brought her peace of mind. She loved seeing her neighbors stop to compliment her new scooter and share in her joy.
Though she could not call herself, Nancy asked her social worker to make sure her gratitude was shared: “Please tell the Hospice Foundation thank you for me.”
This gift of mobility was more than a scooter—it was independence, peace and connection. It was a daily reminder that she was supported, cared for and not alone.
