Veterans Serving Veterans: Local Veterans Prepare “Honoring Veterans Kits”
“No veteran left behind” is more than just a phrase for service members and veterans; it’s something they live by. Recently, as part of our “We Honor Veterans” program and in partnership with the Elara Caring Hospice Foundation, a dedicated group of veteran volunteers gathered at our Jackson, MI, office. Together, they prepared several hundred “Honoring Veterans Kits” to launch this new program. When a, Elara Caring Hospice team wants to recognize a veteran’s service, the “Honoring Veterans Kit” helps them do so in a special way.
This initiative highlights the strong bond among those who have served. By having veteran volunteers create these kits for other veterans, the program builds meaningful connections across generations. It reminds us that the friendships formed in the military last a lifetime, and that the community supports its heroes during important times.
Each “Honoring Veterans Kit” is a way to show gratitude and respect. Inside a patriotic tote bag, recipients receive an Elara Caring veteran lapel pin, a veteran coin, an embossed certificate holder and a veteran newsletter. For those who want one, a veteran Bible is also included, with large print or audio versions available for veterans with vision challenges.
With these kits, hospice teams can honor veterans, recognize their sacrifices and celebrate their legacy with the respect they deserve. This program helps make sure every veteran feels seen and valued at the end of their journey.
