Granting this Lasting Wish was a Home Run!
Doris has always been a baseball fan. Typically she has watched her favorite game on TV, but recently her Mentor, Ohio hospice care team partnered with the Elara Caring Hospice Foundation to give Doris the VIP treatment by attending a Cleveland Guardians game at Progressive Field, surrounded by multiple generations of her family. Wearing a special Guardians jersey, courtesy of ECHF, and through the Elara Caring Hospice Foundation’s Lasting Wish program and in-kind tickets donated by the Cleveland Guardians, Doris and her family were able to take a break from usual routines for a special evening together at the ballpark.
Wearing a new Guardians jersey, Doris sat alongside her children, grandchildren, and caregivers, taking in the action on the field and enjoying classic ballpark treats together. The Cleveland Guardians surprised Doris with a special goodie bag and arranged for the Guardians’ mascot, Slider, and the numerous hot dog race mascots to all stop by for a visit with Doris and family.
Doris thoroughly enjoyed the game, surrounded by family from near and far. The Guardians sadly did not win the game, but for Doris and her family, the true value of the day was the opportunity to enjoy an exciting evening together, spending quality time enjoying one of America’s favorite games, posing for photos, and making treasured memories.
