Lasting Wish
A Harmonious Lasting Wish

Jim and his wife Pat were long-term orchestral music lovers, often attending performances and enjoying the music with one another. When Jim became ill and required hospice services, he shared with his Chaplain Brian that he truly missed orchestral music. His terminal illness prevented him from making the trip to take in a live performance. He talked at great length about specific pieces and types of music he enjoyed most. That day a seed was planted. If Jim could no longer go to the orchestra, could the orchestra come to him?
Chaplain Brian reached out to the Elara Caring Hospice Foundation, who reached out to The Cleveland Orchestra, who quickly answered the call! Vioinists Emma and Katherine offered their skills, talents, and gifts of music, lovingly crafting a personalized orchestral performance for Jim and Pat.
These two talented violinists from The Cleveland Orchestra donated their time and talents and performed a private concert for Jim, his wife, Pat, family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers in the shared lobby of their home.
During the session, the musicians played a selection of classical and contemporary pieces. The private setting allowed Jim, Pat, and their guests to experience the live performance together in a comfortable environment, offering a meaningful period of respite and connection during Jim’s care, as well as wonderful memories, photos, and videos.
Following the final piece, cake and punch provided by the Elara Caring Hospice Foundation was served, further commemorating the occasion. The event provided the family and their close community with a memorable shared experience, made possible through the support of the Foundation and the participating orchestra members. We are grateful to Emma and Katherine for sharing their gifts of music!
