Meet Brenda: Elara Caring Hospice Volunteer Who Sews with a Purpose

Brenda is a talented seamstress and Elara Caring Hospice volunteer in Indianapolis, Indiana who loves to spend her retirement hiking with her dog and helping others. Using her time and sewing talent, she brings comfort to our bereaved families by sewing keepsake teddy bears and memory pillows from their loved ones’ clothing items. With the financial assistance of the Elara Caring Hospice Foundation in purchasing fiberfill and other sewing materials, Elara Caring Hospice volunteers like Brenda are able to create keepsakes that bereaved families enjoy for years to come. Over the last three years, Brenda has created over 50 teddy bears for our hospice patients throughout Indiana. Her desire to help ease the bereavement process motivates her to share her sewing talent with hospice families.
Brenda reflects upon her work, stating, “When my coworkers asked what I wanted to do after retirement, volunteering was always on the list. I’ve been sewing since grade school so making bears is a fit. I’m glad I could add this to my volunteer list and help grieving family members.”
Thank you, Brenda, for your support of our grieving families when they need it most! We are grateful you choose to share your talent to support others as they grieve the loss of a loved one.
